The Cay Glossary of Hard-to-find Words
Product Details
• Age: Ages 12-15
Originally written for 6th grade readers, this is nevertheless a useful companion glossary for anyone reading or teaching The Cay by Theodore Taylor.  This is a comprehensive glossary of the history, geography and dialect of the Caribbean as represented in The Cay.  There are over 140 entries for English words, Caribbean dialectal words, geographical locations (including maps), historical references and more that can’t commonly be found in a 6th grade student’s dictionary.  To accommodate the different editions of The Cay, words are listed by chapter in the order they appear in the book with an alphabetical index in the back.  There is a brief essay regarding the Caribbean dialect to assist readers with Taylor’s use of this expressive form of speech.  Also included in “Notes on World War II” is a simple, historical context to the story.
