Product Description

This course teaches what research is, the basic principles and tools needed to carry out accurate research, and the three kinds of data encountered in research (first-, second- and third-hand data).

In the final part of the course the student applies his new abilities by doing several very simple research activities related to another subject being studied.

The course also teaches how to use the Internet to find information, a skill that every student should master. The student learns the parts of the Internet and how to do an Internet search by doing a tutorial on the Internet. In another activity, the student uses the Internet to find out how library classification systems are used to locate books and other materials in libraries.

Materials You Need to Supply: Text/references: Access to the Internet, a library which uses the Dewey Decimal System (or Library of Congress classification system), an encyclopedia at level of New Book of Knowledge or World Book.
