The student learns to use key statistics such as body weight, BMI (body mass index), percent body weight, blood pressure and pulse rate to evaluate his own health.  And the student is also introduced to the philosophical approaches of Western medicine and alternative medicine.  As part of the final practical activities for the course, the student works out nutritional, exercise and dental regimens for himself, then carries them out for several weeks to a point of some improvement.
