Product Description

This illustrated course orients the student to the solar system.

It teaches the relationship of Earth to the sun, moon and other planets and asteroids, how the Earth turns, why there are seasons, and why the moon has different phases.

In a final activity for the course the student gets to make a drawing of the solar system showing the sun, Earth, moon, other planets, asteroids and a comet.

Materials You Need to Supply: Text: The Planets (1992) Nigel Henbest, Penguin Books, ISBN #0-14-013414-X. Materials: Large and small ball, globe with a tilted axis, two wooden stakes, basketball, BB, grain of sand, small lump of clay, flashlight, calendar, small lamp without lamp shade, butcher paper, strong binoculars or (if available) telescope. Optional Heron text: Basic Geography Glossary may be used as an additional reference tool.
