Product Description

Macramé is the art of tying knots in rope or cord to make a design. The list of things that can be made from macramé includes: belts, wall hangings, room dividers, purses, lampshades, jewelry, dresses, vests, etc.

In this introductory course the student learns basic skills such as how much cord is needed to make a piece of macramé, how to tie different kinds of knots to make pleasing designs, and how to incorporate items such as beads, buttons, pine cones and feathers into the design. Hand-drawn illustrations accompany the step-by-step instructions.

Materials You Need to Supply: A sampler board with various types of macrame cord and the following types of knots labeled: lark's head, square knot, square knot button, half knot, clove hitch or a book on beginning macrame that shows each of those things; mounting board, pins (T-pins and/or straight pins), macrame cord (at least two skeins), 12 feet of heavy cord or twine (quarter inch in diameter, braided clothesline will do); scissors, clay, beads (optional).  Other materials can be found outside: sticks, pine cones, etc.
