This course guides the student through research on the history of art, covering Prehistoric Art, Ancient Egypt and the Near East, Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages in Europe, the Renaissance and Post-Renaissance periods. Some excellent reference materials are recommended, but others may be substituted.

This course goes beyond merely looking at old paintings, and has the student do related art activities so that he can then create and view art from a better understanding of prior ideas and techniques.
