Product Description

This course presents the basics of writing mathematical expressions using algebraic symbols, and of solving equations, all from the viewpoint that math is a language used to express, develop and communicate ideas. The point that math is for use, starting and ending with real applications, is stressed.

Drills for the purpose of learning a new mathematical concept are distinguished from problems that exercise the ability to apply the math that has been learned. The final section of the course takes the student through some practical applications using simple geometric formulas (perimeters and areas).

The text includes chapters titled "Definitions of Algebra Words" and "Summary of Algebra Concepts." Algebra 1 Parts A and B teach the material normally covered in the first year of high school algebra.

Materials You Need to Supply:  Heron materialsAlgebra Supervisor Manual, which covers all the algebra courses published by Heron Books and gives fully explained solutions to key exercises.
