What do you tell a younger child who wants to know what air is?

This course explains air in simple terms and with illustrations, and includes information about air, such as its existence in soil, in water, and in one's body.

The student also learns about wind and its uses and gets to make a pinwheel, a sailboat and a parachute, and observe the effect that air has on each.

Materials You Need to Supply:  Straws, 5 balloons, 1 cup water, soil, sauce pan, pumice, sponge, large bowl or pan, glass cup, paper napkin, stick (2 feet long), string, glass bottle (pint size or smaller) with a top small enough to fit a balloon over it, ice cubes, tape, straight pins, pencil with eraser, aluminum foil, small piece of thin cardboard, paper bag, 2 rubber plungers, pitcher, 2 paper cups, electric fan, hotplate or stove burner, magazines, access to: a refrigerator, a sink and a blackboard.
